Outside Sales Rep - Madison, Wisconsin

POSITION SUMMARY:
This position will be responsible for building the region by initiating contacts with new clients, generating new business opportunities, growing established relationships, and managing and developing the sales territory, with a specific focus on the senior living and healthcare markets. The Outside Sales Rep must have prior sales experience within the foodservice supply industry, familiarity with buying groups / GPOs, and must be able to travel regularly to meet with customers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Generate new clients and business opportunities, while also maintaining established relationships with existing customer accounts.
  • Negotiate major contracts involving in-depth product, industry and competitive knowledge.
  • Maintain in-depth key account strategies. Formulate and recommend a sale or industry program for assigned territory based on customer needs and requirements and carry out such as approved.
  • Maintain in-depth high-level contacts with key customers, keeping them informed of price trends, new products and new uses in the development of sales.
  • Responsible for developing a margin improvement strategy at each of the defined key accounts in conjunction with the VP of Supply Sales and the industrys units.
  • Investigate customer complaints and solve routine industry problems on site. This includes, but is not limited to, new products and uses, marketing efforts, new facilities, price trends, and key industry personnel.
  • Meet and/or exceed sales budget targets on an annual basis.
  • Provide excellent level of customer service to both internal and external customers.
  • Maintain a well-developed pipeline of business (current customers and prospects)
  • Responsible for customer education including industry trends, ideas and understanding their business needs.
  • Acquire knowledge on the products and services offered by our suppliers providing the customer with options and choices to meet their program needs.
  • Both written and verbal communication styles must be presented in a confident, articulate and professional manner.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelors degree (preferably in Sales, Business or Marketing)
  • Prior sales experience, specifically within the foodservice supply industry
  • Familiarity with buying groups / GPOs
  • Proficiency in Microsoft programs; Knowledge of SAP is a plus
  • Strong customer relationship building skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be a self-starter who takes initiative
  • Must be able to travel regularly to meet with customers
PHYSICAL DEMANDS and WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job along with traveling regularly to meet with customers, the employee must be able to use a keyboard, calculator, and telephone. Frequent sitting, talking, hearing, and occasionally stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, lift (40 lbs.), and an ability to adjust vision for close vision work.
